We need everyone’s help right now to protect the rainforest and Indigenous People
The Amazon Rainforest is under a massive threat. I know you’ve heard this a million times, but this is different. There is a piece of legislation that will decimate the rights of Indigenous people of Brazil, who have been protecting the rainforest. It’s unfathomably bad. It has majority support. And they’re voting tomorrow. As reported here, the Bill allows “the Brazilian government to find energy resources, set up military bases, develop strategic roads, and implement commercial agriculture on protected Indigenous tribal lands, without any prior discussion with the affected peoples.”
The thing you can do—and I know this sounds overly simple—is sign this petition—and tell your friends to do the same: SIGN HERE.
As reported here, the Bill allows “the Brazilian government to find energy resources, set up military bases, develop strategic roads, and implement commercial agriculture on protected Indigenous tribal lands, without any prior discussion with the affected peoples.”
Again, this bill has majority support. You may be wondering, why will a petition signed by people who don’t live in Brazil make any difference? Because it will give those opposing it political air cover. It will show the world is with them.
I love that four different people on my feed scheduled this joyous person to reblog by 8am on June 1. I look forward to seeing this a dozen more times today.
this is your reminder that if you’re going to be posting spiderverse gifs / clips you NEED to tag them as flashing, eyestrain, etc.
seizures can kill. the lives of your disabled friends and followers are more important than a movie.
also, do NOT tag them as epilepsy, seizure, photo-sensitivity, etc. people use these tags to find other people like them. by putting them in these tags you are endangering them.
disabled people have talked already about how inappropriate it is to touch or grab their mobility aids. but less often i think do people know how to act if they were asked to hold, retrieve, or touch someone’s aid (such as crutches or canes as these are the aids i have used and am familiar with)
being friends, family, or partners with a disabled person doesn’t grant permission to touch their aids at any time. furthermore having permission to touch an aid - to hold it, pick it up, or retrieve it etc - doesn’t give permission to touch or play with them as you please. while keeping in mind that different people’s boundaries will vary, here are some things not to do with someone mobility aid:
don’t fiddle, stim, or play with it
don’t wave it or swing them around
don’t hold it by the handle the owner uses to utilize it
do not use the device
do not “test it out”
do not lean your weight on it
[in the case of crutches] do not use them to hop or otherwise take your feet off the ground for fun
try not to drop them or make them unclean
do not adjust any settings
do not use them as a weapon or play-weapon
do not walk immediately behind the air user/out of sight
try not to flip them upside down
what you should do instead:
return the aid immediately when asked. no delays because you were not done with them
hold the aid(s) upright, out of the way from other people by the main body
ask before touching or negotiate times when it is okay to grab without asking (such as if they have been dropped or are falling)
give the aid user increased space and distance to use them safely
try to make sure you aren’t forcing an aid user to walk on a sloped path (such as on the pavement/sidewalk)
most importantly, don’t take someone’s boundaries around their mobility device personally, regardless of how close you two are. disabled people deserve autonomy over the things that support and supplement their body functions just as much as their own body.
A survivor drags a former concentration camp guard by the hair while American troops look on at the newly liberated Dora-Mittelbau concentration camp, April 1945.
Why do we never see these photos, only photos of helpless starving people? Why are Jews only depicted as helpless and sniveling? Why is despair the only Jewish emotion that gets shown, not anger or strength or determination or joy?
I want everyone to see this.
My grandfather was one of the American troops who “liberated” Buchenwald. In reality, the survivors found out the allied troops were on their way through a homemade radio. They had guns stored and ready when the time came. many of the guards who hadn’t fled yet were killed by the inmates. My grandpa was always adamant that, in part, “they liberated themselves”
Reblog this picture of me holding a Family Size box of Honey Nut Cheerios? I’d really appreciate it.
How can I say no to such a great photo and such a polite request?
i will always support this post
